Columns

I strongly believe in the value of asserting oneself in continued personal growth and well-being—taking action in the quality of one’s own life. And I’m committed to providing support and credible information to help inspire health, meaning and fulfillment in your life.

In addition to writing articles on a variety of topics about health, lifestyle and societal issues (which you’ll find on the Features, Articles and Blog links on this page), I enjoy writing columns, and the ongoing commitment and connection they provide to the reader.

This is reflected in my new Syndicated Column, Aspire Unplugged, which offers support for people trying to create change in their lives. It’s the ‘go to’ for helping you to stay inspired with your goals. It’s featured on this site (above) and in Hope for Women.

And my Support for Stress column, for Healthy Living Magazine, discusses a variety of areas in our lives that are impacted by stress, and ways to help you cope with it.

The following is an archive of the stress-related magazine columns I’ve written (only some of the recent ones have links for previewing, due to the revised HLM website):

“Work-Life Stress: How to Get Your Balance Back,” Healthy Living Magazine, (Volume 10, Issue 4, 2013)

“How to Maintain Your Body’s Reserves During Stress,” Healthy Living Magazine, (Volume 10, Issue 3, 2013)

“Strong Communities: A Buffer Against Bullying,” Healthy Living Magazine (Volume 10, Issue 2, 2013)

“The Family Stress of Bullying,” Healthy Living Magazine (Volume 10, Issue 1)

“How to Combat the Stress of Bullying” Healthy Living Magazine (Volume 9, Issue 4)
“A study by The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in 2009 indicated that 29% – almost one in three – of students in Ontario admitted to being bullied at school. This isn’t just “kids being kids”…

“Reduce Your Allergy and Asthma Symptoms With Less Stress,” Healthy Living Magazine (Volume 9, Issue 3)
“When it comes to allergies and asthma, food and environment aren’t the only things that can ail you…”

“Boost Your Immune System With Less Stress,” Healthy Living Magazine (Volume 9, Issue 2)
“Many of us hate to get sick, and go to almost any lengths to avoid it, loading up on Echinacea and vitamin C… However, equally important is building up our resilience to stress.”

“Chronic Stress: Get it Before it Gets You,” Healthy Living Magazine, Column: Support for Stress (Volume 8, Issue 3)
“Your heart is pumping, breathing is rapid, adrenaline kicking in, tension building, emotions heightened… Multiply this by frequent occurrences, and you have a recipe for long-term problems.”

“Kids Need Downtime Too!” Healthy Living Magazine, Column: Support for Stress (Volume 8, Issue 2, 2011)
“We hear a lot about reducing our stress, as adults, and strive for that desperately needed leisure time, for the sake of our sanity, but how often do we consider it for our children…?”
